FAQ’s About Our Services

Q. How much does it cost? A. In most cases, there is no charge. We are subsidized in part by the State of California to recycle televisions and computer monitors. However, if a television is over 50” or needs to be removed from above a first floor building, there is a $25 charge. There is also a $50 charge to remove large copy machines from businesses or homes.

Q. What do you pick up? A. Lots of electronic waste – see the list above. We do not take hazardous waste items (fluorescent light bulbs, batteries, paint, and oil).  Please contact the County of Santa Clara at (408) 299-7300 for more information on their Household Hazardous Waste Program.  Other items we cannot take are blow dryers, toasters, lamps, light bulbs, vacuum cleaners, or crock pots.

Q. Where are you located? A. 292 Brokaw Road, Santa Clara, CA 95050 (between San Jose Airport and Costco).   Please drive to the rear of the building.

Q. Do you pick up? A. Yes, we pick-up. However, if you have a small quantity, we suggest you come to our convenient and friendly drive-through Recycling Center – no need to exit your vehicle. We are open Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

Q. What do you do with it? A. We are a state approved collector, which means we must recycle all televisions and monitors we collect using a state approved recycling facility (http://www.ciwmb.ca.gov/Electronics/Reports/Search.aspx).  Most items collected are destroyed and turned into scrap. Some working items are donated to non-profit organizations or individuals. All hard drives are destroyed.

We work exclusively with Electronics Recyclers, International, a California state approved recycling company, where they process all CRTs collected by GreenMouse Recycling.  ERI is part of the Basel Action Network and has signed he Electronic Recycler's Pledge of True Stewardship, the most rigorous criteria for sustainable and socially just electronics recycling. None of the e-waste collected by GreenMouse Recycling is sent outside of the United States for processing.
